I think personally that its just more women that seem interested, i am talking about spiritualism as i i cant really speak for any other religions although to me and this is just my observation, there seems to be more men in things like Christianity, Jehovahs Witnesses, and Mormons. Dont know why that is.

the spirit and destiny magazine your quite right it does appear to be aimed at women more than the other ones. why do they put a woman model covered in makeup on the front cover, or is that meant to be for the men? :):s
From what I've read men tend to be more interested in 'religion' and women more interested in 'spirituality'. They like authority, boundries, Bible studies and debates. Women lean more towards spiritual experiences, prayer and heart-to-heart conversations.

The JWs and Mormons, along with Islam; are very highly organised religions with a clear set of beliefs and list of right and wrongs. All three are percieved by some people as sexist and bar women from leadership roles.

With Christianity it depends very much on the denomination and strand, but historically Christianity has always had more followers, even when a church movement has been patriachial and masculine in character.

Catholicism, the Church of England and all liberal/mainline churches are largely attended by females. The numbers balance out better with the evangelical churches; especially ones like the Southern Baptists in America. The more Holy Spirit centred evangelical churches (Pentecostal and charismatic) tend to attract more women; probably because it is more based on emotions and experience.
:) is that first bit you mention about what men lean towards and what women lean towards, is this a bit like men are from mars and women from venus scenerio then, even though it's religion? :)

thanks for the explanation, an interesting read.

My churches view is that whether a Catholic is a Christian or not depends on the Catholic.

A Christian is anyone who has sincerely repented of their sins, asked Jesus to forgive them and allowed the Holy Spirit to give them spiritual rebirth. Some Catholics I have met have definately done this, but others (including the clergy and possibly even the pope) seem to just be following the religion rather than surrendering their life to God and becoming a new person. Many Protestants are guilty of this also.

Being a Christian depends on your heart, not on your church or denomination.

My friend Alan is a Catholic, but I dont think he is a Christian because I dont see the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in his life and he hasnt made a clear decision to follow Christ.

Very good definition and explanation. Of course, it always depends on who you talk to, what the definition means.

For example, some would say a list of denominations that are considered Christian and others that are considered cults.

I agree it all depends on what is in your heart and soul not the church or denomination. Many people do not look at it that way.

yes it is. not everyone who is born again uses that phrase to describe themselves and some people who call themselves born again Christians are not nessicarily so.

I found this old topic but it interested me because I have often thought the same.

Go on any site and you will see more female members than male.

I have also found that among the males members, they hide their light under a bushel.
:dodgy:
Why I don't know! Most men are excellent mediums but don't like to admit it!
Come on,you guys, open up and let's see your spiritual side

erm well im not sure to be honest, as far as the websites are concerned, you're right there does appear to be more female than male, well we do do most of the talking dont we :buzd: but as far as male mediums are concerned, i find that there are far more male mediums than there are female, im meaning offline as opposed to online, and travel spiritualist churches on platform, do shows around the country and many who have written books. i find that the men seem to be more upfront in that direction and the women tend to deal with the one to ones.

But i know where your coming from online, i think most probably cant be bothered more than anything else LOL.... :smkbot:

I mean this topic was started by my younger brother and he's disappeared now LOL.... :bgld:

P.S. Im waiting for some wise crack from wingman now! summit like 'well we cant get a word in edgeways!' :shk: :D

Hold on a cotton pickin minute lol, I have to defend us blokes on here lol, yes we maybe few but we are here lolPosted Image

But I prefer stuff online as no one has to look at me and think I am strange lol, I very rarely do any spiritual stuff outside of being online, am far to shy believe it or not.
behind a screen I can be blasé as I like cause no one can see me lolPosted Image

In all seriousness though I am very natural in the way I approach spirituality, as I take out of life all the lessons I need to learn, without the need to go on stages etc, I just could not face stuff like that, I prefer to take under my wing waifs and strays that may need a little help, then my work is done, as I always do this with the greatest of respect for the people am trying to help, either by a small message or a chat however the feeling comes I try to help.

But as for conventional spiritual practice am as far removed from that as you are ever likely to find lol.

You might be pleased to know that it’s not just guys who are shy to talk about their beliefs to family and friends. It’s difficult for them to listen to us when they are dealing with everyday life. That’s why I enjoy the web and forums like this - it fulfils a need in me.
