I have been having alot of issues with my computer lately.
It has just come back from the shop for the third time...it is still doing the same crap that it was when I put in in last time (although I am just hoping it is because the guy that normally fixes it was on holidays). So now I have to take it back again for the fourth time!!!!

Before he went on holidays he removed viruses or remains of a virus that I had removed prior to taking it in.
But I was told that just lately there is ALOT of malware getting around that isn't protected by the normal spyware/virus software.
Which is a worry!
My processing is getting behind because the darn pc is in the shop more than out lately!!!!

My processing software is playing up to now, so I will no doubt have to re-install it, but I don't want to spend hours doing that until the other crap is fixed!!!! :smkbot: :dodgy:

I rarely get on facebook these days, I am not one to put my life up on display that alot of people I know do. I tried at one stage but can't get into it.
Maybe I am getting old and turning into an old fuddy duddy!!!!!

It is also one site that is high risk for picking up viruses etc.

If you go onto a site, and all of a sudden the site doesnt work and you get 'unresponsive script' popup. This means that something on that site (java usually ) isn't working properly (running too long and not stopping) and is causing problems on the site...

This has nothing to do with the pc in this instance, but facebook itself ...

Aly if you want a free malware scan and remover then a good one is

it should help though ALy, hope you get to the bottom of your pc problems, it's not nice when you're having problems with it, especially when you rely on it for your livelyhood.

Had no problems with malware.

But it went back to the shop today!!! :smkbot:
They think it might be the motherboard...GREAT!!!!

They reckon there are no tests as such, they can do to test the motherboard, it is more a matter of elimination. So I guess I will have to trust them!

It is a real pain like you say Claire, needing it for work.
I have been thinking of buying a Mac for ages now as it is much better for photographers/processing images, but they are so different to operate plus you have to purchase all your programs again for mac.
So it would be far more expensive than just a motherboard.

It is the expense that stops me everytime!!! :dodgy:

Well its to hope the motherboard hasn't gone bust because that is the most expensive part of the PC, if i was changing the motherboard myself it would be expensive enough but i cant even imagine what they will charge for labour, because changing the motherboard means they will have to strip the PC clean of all its components, including reseating CPU. If they do tell you the motherboard has gone then you need to get an estimate because it will be probably cheaper to buy a new PC after they have added on the many hours labour charges, with the new mother board and fitting, you will probably be looking at a few hundred dollars, maybe $300, depending of course what motherboard it is, the mother board in mine would cost me £250, so make sure you get a price quote before they do it or you could be in for a shock

Ooh ALy...not good! sorry to hear that, ive seen a motherboard, looks really complicated and know myself that once that goes it's not really worth getting it repaired, and like wingman said cheaper to buy a whole new pc. My dads got a MAC and although they can be a pain at times, never used to like them but they do grow on you and like you say better for processing.

Hopefully something will sort itself out re your pc problems, they always do, even at some expense but hopefully last you years.

Well I got my computer back before the Horse Show without another word about the motherboard.
But......it is still not right. All they did was offer to give me a good deal on a new computer...... :smkbot: :smkbot:

I am sooooooooo angry and frustrated, how can a computer shop supposed to be specialists not know what is wrong and not be able to fix it!!!! :smkbot:

Now I have re-installed my photo processing programs, but they still aren't right and alot of my other programs aren't working properly now.
Everything seems to be dying one program at a time.
My virus/spyware program just won't open at all so it's not scanning etc. unless I start up in safe mode...so I shouldn't be online either.

I am ready to make this computer into an ash tray!!!! and I don't even smoke!!!!!!!!!!

I am thinking I might have to go out and purchase another one, but it won't be from the shop that can't fix this one!!!! That's for sure!!!!

So if I'm not around in the next few days it is because of my computer issues.
I am yet to process my horse show images also because of all these problems I am having, so I will have people annoying me about their proofs too! :dodgy:

Really sorry to hear about your computer problems Aly!!! it's infuriating when you have problems like that, especially when the shop are only interested in trying to sell you a new pc. maybe they do know what needs doing to it, i dont know, but may think it's easier to try and sell you a new pc, a bit like cars really!! i agree though go elsewhere for a new one, im sure the funds or whatever you need will turn up and you'll find yourself with a brand new pc and no added worries if your going to loose your work or this is going to crash etc, and if yu get one under warranty then you've got peace of mind that if anything does go wrong, then you can get it sorted out. I hope your still not running in safe mode, and i hope you get things sorted very soon.

Oh well I went and bought a new tower today.
Spent alot more than what I had really wanted to...but ain't that typical!!!! :smkbot:
At least as you say Claire I now have a new machine and I shouldn't have any issues for some time now!

I am still setting things up and loading programs, but thought I would drop in breifly to say hi!!! :woop: :ggle:

It will be good to finish processing these images and get them online so I can concentrate on other things without any hiccups and time issues.

The only issues I have now is compatibility issues, as I have gone from 32 bit to 64 bit and from XP to windows 7 so having a few hiccups. :dodgy:

Yeh that's true Claire.

I'll be really cheesed off if this one mucks up..... :dodgy:

Have a few hiccups that are more of an inconvenience with some of my programs, but I can still process and get these images loaded which is top priority.
I will sort out other issues when I have time.

I guess because Windows 7 is new, like Vista there were hiccups with it too.
We are just guinea pigs when it comes to the new stuff they bring out!!!!
