Surgery

Well for years, for a long time we have always been concerned about my sons breathing. Especially at night. Snoring, gasping for air and waking up. It seemed every-time we would bring him to the doctor and check him over they would say he is fine. Have always been concerned about his breathing. Well since being in the new province and staying at somebody else house it seemed to get worse. We finally got a family doctor, that we just started to see and right away noticed blockage in his nasal passages. Well right away he sent us to a specialist the very first day we met our family doctor. They took x rays and well we saw the specialist today. His adenoids between them and the back of the nose there is only 3 mm of breathing room compared to 1 cm for the rest of his airways. So they will be booking him for day surgery asap...

All this time. Wow. Anyway so that is another thing being taken care of.. Whew... sigh of relief.. Wife is nervous about surgery but I kind of decided it was best for him to get it done. For comfort, breathing and sleeping...

I know when I was 7 years old I had my tonsils and adenoids taken out altogether. It does not surprise me that he needs his adenoids out too. Although the doctor is not willing to look at his tonsils because of his age and just the risk I guess. Apparently years ago they used to do a lot of them but now they are more conservative about surgeries like that.

:angelhug: It used to be quite a common thing taking the tonsils and adenoids out at the same time. I am really glad that you've finally got to the bottom of Josh's problem Joe. I can sympathise with your wife's feelings over having the surgery done, although i believe it is a simple procedure and like you said 'same day' surgery. It's never nice knowing that your child is or maybe having surgery, I feel the same about Nathan as he has a subluxed hip, meaning it's out of place and could dislocate if nothings done about it, like having physio, weight bearing excercises, which could eventually end up having surgery to losen and lengthen the tendons and put his hip back into place. It's a very worrying time and even though they said it's a simple procedure, doesnt make a difference does it, so i can totally understand where your wife is coming from with this, but we both know that it's probably for the best for them. :angelhug:

is Josh asmatic like you Joe?

and how's his fever bearing up now, is this linked to it?

Well Joe im really glad that its nothing too serious and once this procedure is done with then you can all rest knowing that Josh can breathe better and be more comfortable. xxx

Wow that is great to get such a quick response from your new family doctor after such frustration.

Understandable that you wife is concerned, I guess any surgery there is a risk factor, but I'm sure he'll be fine and so much better for it.

I had my tonsils out when I was five...I don't know about my adeniods though, I guess they might have taken them too.
I know my tonsils grew back as they left tissue there! :smkbot: :dodgy:

I do remember mum tricking me to get me to the hospital though!!!
I did think it strange (even at 5) that I was going out in my pj's and dressing gown on. We got picked up by a taxi from home and taken to the hospital......even then I didn't cotton on straight away  :ggle:
